A series of unique vistas generated from a fleeting personal experience as reimagined through a reciprocal dialogue between artist and AI.
Reconstructed Landscape{s} – Hidcote Bartrim is a series of unique vistas generated from a reciprocal dialogue between artist and AI. The work explores creative possibilities that arise from blending traditional modes of digital production with the latest generation of machine learning systems.
The artwork has been created from a single, 1-second field recording that was hand-captured by the artist using a Pixel 6 smartphone with Tensor (Google’s first-generation AI system-on-chip). The video footage was deconstructed into a library of still images and audio samples that were then processed multiple times, alternating between traditional digital production tools (controlled by the artist) and machine learning systems (controlled by AI). The result of this exchange is a series of macro and micro ‘landscapes’ that bring together the aesthetic possibilities offered by both sides.
